Monica Henk
Monica Henk was on her way to music school at 7 AM on a Saturday
morning in Bedford/Stuyvesant Brooklyn. A Black 95-97 Chevy S-10 Blazer
Plowed into her at the intersection of Flushing and Kent. It hit her so hard
it threw her off the bike, snapped her neck, broke her left arm and
right ankle, and stopped her heart.
It lost a bumper and headlight in the process, but kept driving.
Paramedics revived her, but she had been without oxygen to the brain
for almost 30 minutes. They say if they knew that at the scene they
wouldn't have revived her heart. She had 90% trauma to the brain, was
probably paralyzed from the neck down, and in a severe coma. She didn't even
response to basic stimuli that most coma victims respond to like the
gag reflex.
Her body lived a few days on machines, but she was essentially brain
dead. On Thursday at 12:40 PM the machines were turned off and she passed
at 12:50.
The funeral is this Sunday the 22nd at Leo Kearns Funeral Home in Regal
Park, NY. 718 441 3300
